Home Show 2010 to run on Santee Cooper Green Power
Published Thursday, April 08, 2010 10:57 AM
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. —Next month’s Home Show 2010, sponsored by the Horry Georgetown Home Builders Association, will celebrate its 30th year with a spotlight on “green” products during a three-day show powered entirely with Santee Cooper Green Power.

The Home Show 2010 has purchased renewable Green Power from Santee Cooper to meet all of the needs for the May 21-23 event, including its Green Expo, community service events, workshops and seminars, all at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.

“For 30 years, Home Show has been introducing homeowners to the best products available for a comfortable lifestyle, and it only makes sense that we would include Santee Cooper Green Power as one of those products,” said Rose Anne O’Reilly, executive vice president of the Horry Georgetown Home Builders Association. “We want to lead by example, of course, and so we’re glad to have the opportunity to power Home Show 2010 with the same Green Power we’ll be promoting to vendors and attendees.”

Santee Cooper generates 21 megawatts of renewable Green Power from clean, renewable energy sources including landfill biogas and solar power. In fact, Santee Cooper is the only utility generating Green Power in South Carolina, which it began in 2001 by opening the Horry County Landfill Generating Station.

“Santee Cooper is South Carolina’s leader in renewable energy. We have promoted energy efficiency through our longstanding support of the Horry Georgetown Home Builders Association, and we are glad to take that partnership to a newer and greener level,” said Marc Tye, Santee Cooper vice president of conservation and renewable energy. “When an organization such as Home Show 2010 purchases renewable power, that money is fully reinvested in new or expanded Green Power generation by Santee Cooper. I congratulate Horry Georgetown Homebuilders for walking the talk by supporting renewable, South Carolina-generated Green Power.”

Horry Georgetown Home Builders Association, chartered in 1969, has grown to include more than 500 member firms and takes pride in promoting professionalism and industry best practices, such as educating builders about the advantages of “green” building practices and techniques through its Coastal Green Council. Santee Cooper is South Carolina’s state-owned electric and water utility, and the state’s largest power producer. The ultimate source of electricity for 2 million South Carolinians, Santee Cooper is dedicated to being the state’s leading resource for improving the quality of life for the people of South Carolina.
