Carolina-Clemson Rivalry Game to be Santee Cooper Green-Powered
Published Tuesday, November 22, 2011 5:48 PM
MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – For a second year in a row, the famed University of South Carolina and Clemson University football game will be powered by 100 percent Santee Cooper Green Power.

USC has teamed up with Santee Cooper to ensure that all the electricity needs of the football game at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, SC on Nov. 26, 201 will be met with Green Power. Santee Cooper produces Green Power from clean, renewable, South Carolina resources across the state.

“Powering such a high-energy game with in-state renewable resources is a victory we can all celebrate,” said University of South Carolina University President Harris Pastides. “I’m all for being green, along with being garnet and black, of course.”

Santee Cooper, South Carolina’s leader in generating renewable energy, generates 28 megawatts of Green Power at landfill biogas, wind and solar stations around South Carolina.

“This alliance with USC is a game-winning play right out of our Green Power playbook,” said Lonnie Carter, Santee Cooper president and CEO. “When Green Power is purchased for an event, that money is fully reinvested in new or expanded Santee Cooper Green Power generation. That has the power to change the way we all see the world – whether we bleed garnet or orange.”

Santee Cooper is South Carolina’s state-owned electric and water utility, and the state’s largest power producer. The ultimate source of electricity for 2 million South Carolinians, Santee Cooper is dedicated to being the state’s leading resource for improving the quality of life for the people of South Carolina.
